Super GT Round 5 kicked off at Sportsland Sugo in Miyagi Pref. on the weekend of July 28-29, 2007. Sportsland Sugo is approximately a 3-hour Shinkansen (bullet train) ride from Tokyo to Sendai. The track itself is situated about 1-hour away from Sendai Station in the mountainous region of Miyagi Pref. with the course stretching 3,704.256m in length and 1-12.5m in width.
During the warm up run, the skies began to filled with dark clouds which later led to rain, thus forcing all the drivers to switch to rain tires on their cars. Unfortunately, the rain did not cease to stop during the actual race so this implemented an additional challenge to see which driver proves to be the dominant one under extreme weather conditions. In the GT500 class, the win went to 2nd place qualifier, ARTA NSX (Daisuke Ito and Ralph Firman). In the GT300 class, WedsSport Celica (Akira Iida and Yuhi Sekiguchi) took the winning victory.
