Rusty’s 1992 Nissan Skyline

The Black Scorpion sleeper

by Christopher R. Jue

There’s always something about all black cars that attract my attention. Because of the stealthy look, I sense the driver has something secretive that he doesn’t want anyone to know about. Black is obviously the best choice of color if you want to hide something and I know for a fact that Rusty Alfaro’s “Black Scorpion” sleeper is equipped with a handful of big surprises that he doesn’t want to easily reveal. Being another one of Japan’s finest resident; Rusty Alfaro’s 1992 Skyline has gained the respect by many car enthusiasts throughout the Yokosuka and Yokohama area.

Rusty started his 1992 Skyline build-up the correct way…from scratch. He acquired his Skyline some time ago, completely stock, just as it was when it first rolled out from the manufacturer. Just like any car build-up, Rusty poured every penny earned into his car until his project was complete.

His first modification was to swap out the original RB20DET engine for something a bit more powerful, a RB25DET engine found on the R-33’s. Not really being satisfied enough with just a normal RB25DET engine, Rusty decided to bore it out to a 2.7L with HKS pistons and slap on a HKS GT-RS turbo to it. After months time, Rusty still was not getting the satisfaction he wanted performance wise so he turned to the special magical gas…the “Cool Aide” stuff…a ZEX nitrous wet type system. All engine management and tuning is done by the one and only, Tajima from BEE-Racing.

Conserving the true originality of Rusty’s Skyline without any major exterior modifications, he added an OEM GT-R bumper, the original R32 body kit, and a vented fiber glass hood. The car sits on 17” AVS custom powder coated black rims, wrapped with BRIDGESTONE POTENZA’S RE-01R (Front-25/45) and BRIDGESTONE POTENZA’S RE-01R (Rear-235/45). To keep the car “brand consistent,” the cars’ suspension is handled by the HKS HyperMax adjustable shocks.

Up front, inside the cockpit seats a RECARO racing seat with a SCROTCH 4 point seat belt for safety. The interiors’ control panel is decorated with a series of DEFI gauges and a GREDDY Profec B-spec II boost controller. The car is then controlled with a C’s short shifter, RAZO shift knob, and a MOMO JET steering wheel.

Keep your eyes out on Rusty’s Black Scorpion if you are ever in the Yokosuka and Yokohama area. You will find this stealthy ride blazing through Japan’s highways past you from B-line to Aqualine.

ENGINE Tuned by : TAJIMA

CAR HISTORY: This car was acquired couple month ago “bone stock” with the original RB20DET Engine. He employs TAJIMA to add much needed power to bring out all horses available on the engine. After few run on the freeway, Rusty felt he needed more. Over the last few months after looking at ways to change the performance. Like other car enthusiast, Rusty started his horsepower build up one dollar at a time, completing each modification whenever funds are available. He envisioned and decided to swap out to a much bigger Engine, the RB25DET found on the R-33’s, then getting it bored out to 2.7L with HKS Pistons, with a big engine supporting components has to be change, so he choose to go with TOMIE Fuel Pump to push fuel into a 555cc NISMO Fuel injector and Fuel Regulator, to keep it well lubricated and N1 Oil Pump is installed. HKS GT-RS turbo, Metal Racing suction and Air cleaner is in place with HKS Intercooler, a Steel High performance radiator is installed to keep the engine cool at all time with N1 Water pump pushing the water in & out of the motor. GREDDy Profec B Spec II Boost control is installed and to prevent the cylinder head from blowing during while at high boost, HKS 1.6 metal gasket is in place. After installing all the main engine components, Exhaust system has to be ripped out & replaced with HKS 80MM piping system to allow the engine to exhale. Engine computer was next on the list; two computers are re-mapped to match its new power plant. With the engine massive horsepower Rusty change the clutch with NISMO double plate, replace stock tranny shifter with C’s quick shift. One last component is installed to give this engine extra power……….THIS CAR GOT “Cool Aide”… ZEX Nitrous “Wet Type” System.
After weeks of being in the shop, RB20 out and RB25 in…and too many dollars later. “ Black Scorpion is out…. tearing up the highways of Japan, from B-line to Aqualine.
